“Hello my boy,” Dad greeted with a warm smile, “glad to see you having some fun. Did
Mick tell you about this afternoon?” he asked.
“Yip,” I replied. I smiled at Kim and greeted George and Aunt Molly. Kim smiled back at
me, it gave me that warm fuzzy feeling again. I immediately wished this was all over so
that I could just be with
“Go get dressed and you and I can go have some lunch, just the two of us, what do you
think?” Dad asked. It sounded like heaven. I ran inside and got dressed as quick as
possible. I couldn’t wait to spend some one on one time with Dad.
“Where are we going?” I asked as we walked off along the path in the front of the cabins.
“It’s a surprise” he replied. I felt the excitement well up inside, I liked surprises. We
walked towards the infirmary garden and then past the buildings until we came out to
the dense vegetation on the other side. In the middle of the wall of green in front of us
was a dark hole big enough for one person to fit through at a time.
“Follow me,” Dad said as he entered into the dark hole. I followed somewhat reluctantly,
a big fan of dark enclosed spaces. But lunch with Dad was on the other side, so
how bad could it be, probably just a little further and we would come into a clearing for
a picnic, more than likely. The dark tunnel of vegetation started to twist and turn and
with every corner I lost sight of Dad, he was keeping a healthy pace and it was quite
difficult to keep up with him. There was a small voice of concern starting to make itself
heard in my heard. It was urging me not to lose sight of Dad, there was a slight edge of
panic to it.
“Dad!” I yelled, “please slow down I can’t keep up with you.”
